Blue nila is a great ingredient when it comes to skincare applications. This is all thanks to its moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties. You can use blue nila as an ingredient in several products. One of those products is the amazing DIY blue nila body butter.

In this article, you’ll learn how you can make this product right at home. Let’s start by listing the ingredients and equipment you’ll need.

Ingredients Needed

  • Solid cocoa butter. Alternative: solid shea butter
  • Blue nila powder that is special for skincare applications
  • Sweet almond oil
  • Lemon essential oil. If you have a sensitive scalp, don’t use this specific essential oil; use another one of your choosing.
  • Corn flour

Notes on Ingredients

Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.

When an essential oil is included, I use either pure or diluted essential oils. If using pure essential oils, use up to 2% by weight. To use diluted essential oils, mix 1 gram (0.035 oz) of pure essential oil with 100 grams (3.5 oz) of sweet almond oil or jojoba oil.

If a recipe calls for fragrance oil, you can use diluted essential oil instead to benefit from both its scent and therapeutic effects. This provides a natural alternative to synthetic fragrance oils and offers additional benefits.

Tools Needed

  • A small bowl
  • A scale (helps with accurately measuring quantities)
  • Hand mixer
  • Small casserole/pot

Steps: DIY Blue Nila Body Butter

1- Cut the solid cocoa butter in strips and add 100 grams (3.53 oz) to a bowl.

2- Pour 50 grams (1.76 oz) of almond oil to the bowl.

3- Give the bowl a “hot bath” to melt the ingredients (specifically the cocoa butter). By this, we mean filling a casserole/pot with water, putting it on the stove, and placing the bowl in the water. Don’t put the bowl directly on the stove (this might ruin the product).
Keep the hot bath running until the cocoa butter fully melts.

4- Put the bowl in the freezer or fridge to have the melted ingredients slightly harden.

5- Use an electric mixer to turn the contents creamy (you can also use a hand mixer for this).

6- Add a 1/4 teaspoon of blue nila powder and mix the contents thoroughly.

7- Add 5 drops of your preferred essential oil (I chose lemon essential oil) and mix well.

8- Add 1/2 teaspoon of corn flour and mix the contents fully. The corn flour will lessen the oiliness of the body butter. This way, when you apply it to the skin, it won’t have an oily feel.

9- You can use the electric mixer again to ensure a good mixing.

9- And that’s it! The DIY blue nila body butter is finished.
