DIY Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil is a fantastic way to refresh your skincare routine with a natural touch. If you’ve been searching for a simple yet effective face wash, this recipe is perfect for you. Tea tree oil is renowned for its cleansing properties, making it an excellent choice for clear and healthy skin.
Creating your own face wash at home means you know exactly what’s going onto your skin. With just a few easy ingredients, you can whip up a rejuvenating blend that not only cleanses but also helps maintain a radiant complexion. Let’s dive into this straightforward and refreshing DIY recipe!
Ingredients Needed
Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.
- Shredded Soap: Use olive oil soap, Aleppo soap or any soap suitable for your skin.
- Tea Tree Essential Oil: Tea tree essential oil is potent and should always be diluted before including it in your face wash to avoid irritation. This is what we will do in the detailed steps below.
- Coconut Oil
- Natural Honey
- Distilled Water
- Mica Color Powder
- Optional: Germall Plus preservative
Note: We will need 34 grams (1.2 ounces) of coconut oil. If the coconut oil is solid due to cooler temperatures, melt it separately until it becomes liquid. By the time you need to use it, it will have cooled and be ready to mix with the other ingredients.
Tools Needed
- Scale to weigh quantities
- Measuring cup
- Beaker
- Whisk
- Two small bowls or cups
- Tablespoon
- One or two small bottles with dispensers to store your DIY Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil
Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.
Steps: DIY Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil
Reminder: If your coconut oil is solid due to cooler temperatures, melt it separately until it is liquid. Let it cool down before use. We will need a total of 34 grams (1.2 ounces).
1- Begin by placing 1 cup of shredded soap in a beaker. This typically weighs around 100-120 grams (3.5-4.2 ounces), depending on the density and moisture content of the soap.
2- Add 1 cup of boiling distilled water (approx. 240 grams or 8.5 ounces).
3- Mix the soap and water thoroughly with a whisk until the soap is completely dissolved.
Prepare and Add Color
4- In a separate small cup or bowl, measure out 17 grams (0.6 ounces) of liquid (or melted) coconut oil.
5- Add a small quantity of mica color powder to the coconut oil.
6- Mix the color thoroughly.
7- Pour the coconut oil and mica color mixture into the main ingredients in the beaker. Assess if more mica powder is needed to achieve your desired color for the face wash.
Prepare and Add Diluted Tea Tree Oil
8- In another small cup or bowl, measure out the remaining 17 grams (0.6 ounces) of liquid (or melted and cooled) coconut oil.
Important: If using melted coconut oil, ensure it is cooled before adding the tea tree essential oil; otherwise, the essential oil may evaporate.
9- Add 3-4 drops of tea tree essential oil. For a slightly stronger concentration, you can use 6-7 drops.
10- Mix the coconut oil and essential oil thoroughly to create your diluted tea tree oil.
11- Add the diluted tea tree oil to the main ingredients in the beaker.
12- Mix thoroughly the contents.
Finishing Up!
13- Add 17 grams (0.6 ounces) of natural honey.
14- Blend thoroughly the ingredients with the whisk.
15- Pour the face wash into one or two small bottles with dispensers. Seal the bottles to prevent contamination and preserve the freshness.
16- Allow the face wash to settle for one day. It will develop a slightly creamy texture and will be ready to use.
How to Use: DIY Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil
How to Use:
a. Wet Your Face: Begin by wetting your face with lukewarm water to open your pores and prepare your skin for cleansing.
b. Shake the Bottle: Shake the bottle gently before each use to ensure the ingredients are well-mixed.
c. Apply Face Wash: For best results, use a facial cleansing device. Place a small amount of face wash onto the brush or pad. If you don’t have a device, use your fingertips.
d. Use the Device: Turn on the device and move it in circular motions across your face, starting at your forehead and moving down to your cheeks, nose, and chin.
e. Manual Application: If not using a device, apply the face wash directly to your dampened fingertips and massage gently in circular motions over your entire face, avoiding the eye area.
f. Rinse Off: Rinse your face thoroughly with lukewarm water to remove any residue.
g. Pat Dry: Gently pat your face dry with a clean towel, avoiding rubbing.
How to Store:
- Without Preservative: If you choose not to add a preservative, the face wash is best used within 10 days. Store it in the refrigerator to maintain its freshness and prevent bacterial growth.
- With Germall Plus: Alternatively, you can add 1% Germall Plus to extend the shelf life of the face wash. With this preservative, the face wash remains effective for up to 3 months and can be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat.
