Tired of battling frizz and searching for a solution that’s both effective and natural? In this DIY hair pomade guide, we’ll show you how to craft your own frizz-taming formula using natural ingredients.

With a simple blend of shea butter, beeswax, and nourishing oils, you can create a medium-hold pomade that not only tames frizz but also enhances the shine of your locks.

Ingredients Needed

  • Odorless soft shea butter, or cocoa butter
  • Beeswax
  • Sweet almond oil
  • Castor oil
  • Vitamin E capsule
  • Lavender essential oil

Notes on Ingredients

Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.

When an essential oil is included, I use either concentrated or diluted essential oils. If using concentrated essential oils, use up to 0.5% by weight to ensure safety for all skin types. To use diluted essential oils, mix 1 gram (0.035 oz) of concentrated essential oil with 100 grams (3.5 oz) of sweet almond oil or jojoba oil.

If a recipe calls for fragrance oil, you can use diluted essential oil instead to benefit from both its scent and therapeutic effects. This provides a natural alternative to synthetic fragrance oils and offers additional benefits.

Tools Needed

  • Scale to weigh quantities
  • Bowl
  • Small silicone spatula
  • A small container to store your DIY Hair Pomade

Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.

Steps: DIY Hair Pomade

We are going to prepare 100 grams (3.52 oz) of DIY Hair Pomade.

1- Start by putting 30 grams (1.05 oz) of odorless soft shea butter in a bowl. You can use cocoa butter instead.

5- Heat and melt the contents of the bowl in a bain-marie (hot water bath). A bain-marie is done by placing the bowl in a large pot of hot steaming water. Use a medium stove temperature. This will gradually heat and melt the contents. Avoid boiling.

6- Wait approximately 5 minutes for the mixture to cool slightly. Ensure no vapor is coming off; this prevents potential evaporation of the essential oil we’ll add next.

7- Add 1 gram (0.035 oz) of lavender essential oil.
