Looking to achieve a beautiful, sun-kissed glow at home? DIY Bronze Body Butter is the perfect solution. This easy-to-make recipe will give your skin a natural shimmer while keeping it hydrated and soft. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a luxurious body butter that enhances your complexion.

In our previous article, Sparkle and Shine: Create Your Own Shimmering Lotion, we shared a fantastic shimmering body lotion recipe. Now, we’re taking it a step further with this delightful DIY Bronze Body Butter. Whether you prefer lotion or body butter, follow along to learn how to make this radiant skin treat in no time!

Ingredients Needed

  • Shea Butter: Refined shea butter is used in this recipe to avoid the strong, natural odor of unrefined shea butter. While unrefined shea butter retains more nutrients, refined shea butter offers a neutral scent and smoother texture, making it a better choice for this bronze body butter.
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Bronze Mica Color Powder: Bronze suits darker skin tones. For lighter skin tones, use gold color mica.
  • Fragrance Oil or diluted essential oil
  • Vitamin E capsule for skin, optional

Notes on Ingredients

Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.

When an essential oil is included, I use either concentrated or diluted essential oils. If using concentrated essential oils, use up to 0.5% by weight to ensure safety for all skin types. To use diluted essential oils, mix 1 gram (0.035 oz) of concentrated essential oil with 100 grams (3.5 oz) of sweet almond oil or jojoba oil.

If a recipe calls for fragrance oil, you can use diluted essential oil instead to benefit from both its scent and therapeutic effects. This provides a natural alternative to synthetic fragrance oils and offers additional benefits.

Tools Needed

  • Scale to weigh quantities
  • Bowl or stainless steel cup
  • Tablespoon
  • Wooden popsicle stick
  • Small container to store your DIY Bronze Body Butter

Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.

Steps: DIY Bronze Body Butter

1- Begin by placing 56 grams (1.97 ounces) of refined shea butter in a bowl.

2- Add 4 tablespoons of sweet almond oil (approx. 60 grams or 2.1 ounces in total).

3- Gently heat and melt the ingredients in a bain-marie (hot water bath). A bain-marie is made by placing the bowl in a larger pot of hot, steaming water. This will gradually heat and melt the contents. Make sure to stir while the mixture is melting. Avoid boiling.

4- Add some bronze mica color powder using the end of a wooden popsicle stick. You can add more powder if you desire a more intense color. Here I ended up adding twice the amount that could be picked up with the rounded end of the stick.

7- If you wish to add Vitamin E to the body butter to protect against rancidity and for its antioxidant properties, add it now: Simply pierce a Vitamin E capsule and squeeze its contents into the mixture.

8- Stir the contents thoroughly.

9- Pour the mixture into a suitable glass container.
