Ingredients Needed

• Cream base. It is described as base because it is raw and pure, with no additives added to it. So it has no oils, extracts, color or fragrance added to it. It is meant to be a base to which you add your own additives to make the cream or lotion that you desire.
• Aloe Vera gel
• Rose water or rose hydrosol
• Mica color powder. For darker skin, use the bronze mica color. For lighter skin, use the gold mica color.
• Fine glitter. This glitter has to be for skincare applications. The color of the glitter is to match the mica color mentioned above.
• Sweet almond oil

Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products. Also, where an essential oil is included in my recipes, I utilize either of two types of essential oils: pure if added in drops, or diluted if mixed in grams—For diluted essential oil, mix 1 gram (0.035 oz) of pure essential oil with 100 grams (3.5 oz) of sweet almond oil or jojoba oil.

Tools Needed

• Scale to weigh quantities
• Glass beaker
• Bowls
• Glass mixing rod
• Hand mixer

Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.

Steps: Create Your Own Shimmering Lotion

1- Start by measuring and adding 50 grams (1.76 oz) of the cream base into the beaker.

2- Add a teaspoon (5 milliliters) of aloe vera gel.

3- Now, we want to add the rose water. I will not specify the quantity of the rose water. The reason being that the quantity depends on the cream base that you have. One type of cream base can withstand more additives than another type. Here, we have 2 additives: the aloe vera gel and the rose water.

When you mix the additives with the cream base, you want them to blend properly and not separate. This is what we mean when we say that the cream base can withstand a certain quantity of additives.

The best way to do this is by adding one tablespoon of rose water at a time. Mix and see the consistency of the lotion. It should be neither too thick nor too thin.

For the type of cream base that I have, I have found that adding 7 tablespoons of rose water (105 milliliters) to the 50 grams of cream base and the teaspoon of aloe vera gel gives me the lotion consistency that I like. This quantity also blends well with the cream base that I am using, and does not result in separation.

You might need to add more or less, so start with one tablespoon at a time. Mix and check the lotion consistency.

4- Now, we will add color to the lotion mix. In a small separate bowl, mix a little quantity of the mica color powder with a little sweet almond oil.

Don’t add the mica powder directly to the lotion mix, because it will not dissolve properly in the water-based cream base. Dissolve it first separately in almond oil, then add the color mix to the lotion.

Add more color if you prefer.

5- Use a hand mixer to blend the ingredients thoroughly.

6- Finally, add a little quantity of glitter to enhance the shimmering effect. You can add it directly to the lotion mix.

7- Mix well and you are done!

2. Apply sparingly: Less is more when it comes to shimmering lotion. Begin by dispensing a small amount onto your fingertips or palm. Remember, you can always add more later if desired.
3. Targeted application: Gently dab or massage the lotion onto the desired areas, such as the back of your neck, décolletage, or shoulders. Blend it evenly and ensure a seamless transition between the lotion and your natural skin tone.
4. Build up the intensity: If you prefer a more pronounced shimmer, you can gradually layer the lotion. Apply a thin layer first, allow it to dry, and then repeat the process until you achieve the desired level of radiance.
