Today we will use coffee, but not in a hot beverage. Rather, we will use it to make a natural DIY Coffee Soap. This simple yet effective soap harnesses the benefits of coffee, creating a delightful addition to your skincare routine.

With the exfoliating power of ground coffee and a loofah, this homemade soap helps remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling smooth and rejuvenated. Plus, the energizing properties of coffee can improve circulation, making this soap not only fragrant but also beneficial for your skin. Let’s dive into this easy DIY project!

Ingredients Needed

Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.

  • Glycerin Soap Base: Shredded or cut-up.
  • Ground Coffee: Do not use instant coffee.
  • Coffee Fragrance Oil: Alternatively, you can use diluted coffee essential oil to enjoy both its scent and therapeutic benefits. This provides a natural alternative to synthetic fragrance oils and adds additional skin benefits. To make a diluted essential oil, mix 1 gram (0.035 oz) of concentrated essential oil with 100 grams (3.5 oz) of sweet almond oil or jojoba oil.

Items Needed

  • Scale to weigh quantities
  • Medium beaker
  • Whisk
  • Piece of loofah: We will place a loofah in the soap, because the coffee soap also exfoliates the skin, and the loofah makes the exfoliation more effective.
  • 70% medical alcohol
  • Silicone soap mold with circular cavities
  • Plastic wrap (cling film)

Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.

Steps to Make DIY Coffee Soap

We will make a DIY Coffee Soap weighing approximately 100 grams (3.52 ounces).

1- Place 100 grams (3.52 ounces) of cut-up glycerin soap base in a glass beaker.

2- Gently melt the glycerin soap base using a bain-marie (hot water bath). To set up a bain-marie, place the beaker in a larger pot of hot, steaming water. This method will gradually melt the soap pieces without direct heat. Stir the mixture while it melts, and avoid letting it boil.

3- Once the glycerin soap base has fully melted, add 2 grams (0.07 ounces) of ground coffee.

4- Mix the ingredients thoroughly.

5- Add 2 grams (0.07 ounces) of coffee fragrance oil (or diluted coffee essential oil, as explained in the Ingredients section above).

6- Mix the contents well.

7- Now is the time to pour the soap mixture into a suitable mold that will give the soap the desired shape. First, spray the mold and the loofah with medical 70% alcohol to sanitize them.

8- Place the loofah piece into a mold cavity.

9- Give the soap mixture a final stir, then pour it into the mold cavity over the loofah.

10- Spray the surface of the soap with alcohol to eliminate any bubbles.

11- Allow the soap to harden. The time it takes to solidify may vary depending on room temperature, but it’s best to wait at least 3 hours before removing it from the mold.

12- Remove the coffee soap from the mold.

13- Finally, wrap the soap in plastic wrap (cling film) to prevent condensation from forming on the surface. You can start using the soap the next day.

How to Use DIY Coffee Soap

a. Wet your skin: Before applying the soap, make sure your skin is damp. This helps create a good lather and makes the exfoliation process more effective.

b. Gently massage: Rub the coffee soap directly onto your skin in a circular motion. The ground coffee and loofah will gently exfoliate, removing dead skin cells and leaving your skin smooth and refreshed.

c. Rinse thoroughly: Once you’ve massaged the soap over your skin, rinse off with warm water to remove any soap residue and exfoliated particles.

d. Moisturize: After drying your skin, apply your favorite moisturizer to lock in hydration and keep your skin soft.

For best results, use the soap 2-3 times a week, depending on your skin’s sensitivity to exfoliation.

Benefits of DIY Coffee Soap

Exfoliation: The ground coffee and loofah work together to gently exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells and promoting a smoother, healthier complexion.

Improved Circulation: Coffee is known to stimulate blood flow, which can enhance circulation in the skin, giving it a revitalized and radiant appearance.

Antioxidant Properties: Coffee is rich in antioxidants, which can help combat free radicals and protect the skin from environmental stressors, potentially reducing the signs of aging.

Hydration: The glycerin soap base helps to maintain moisture in the skin, preventing dryness and ensuring your skin feels soft and hydrated after use.

Cellulite Reduction: The caffeine in coffee may help reduce the appearance of cellulite by breaking down fat cells and promoting smoother skin. Regular use of coffee soap can improve the texture and tone of areas affected by cellulite.

Natural Fragrance: The coffee essential oil or fragrance adds a delightful, invigorating scent to your skincare routine, making each use a refreshing experience.
