Follow this straightforward guide to craft your own minty soap. Ideal for personal use or as a homemade gift, this recipe ensures a refreshing wash every time. Enjoy the benefits of mint with this rewarding DIY project.
Ingredients Needed
- White glycerine soap base
- Dried mint powder
- Mint carrier oil
- Mica green color powder
- Optional: Essential oil or fragrance oil
Notes on Ingredients
Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.
When an essential oil is included, I use either concentrated or diluted essential oils. If using concentrated essential oils, use up to 0.5% by weight to ensure safety for all skin types. To use diluted essential oils, mix 1 gram (0.035 oz) of concentrated essential oil with 100 grams (3.5 oz) of sweet almond oil or jojoba oil.
If a recipe calls for fragrance oil, you can use diluted essential oil instead to benefit from both its scent and therapeutic effects. This provides a natural alternative to synthetic fragrance oils and offers additional benefits.
Tools Needed
- Scale to measure quantities
- Bowl
- Small cup
- Teaspoon
- Small spatula or whisk
- 95% medical alcohol to spray on the soap surface after pouring it into the mold
- Soap mold
Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.
Steps: DIY Glycerine Soap with Mint Recipe
The quantities used for the ingredients in the steps below are sufficient to make one soap bar. If you wish to make more than one bar, adjust the quantities proportionately.
1- Begin by placing 100 grams (3.52 oz) of white glycerine soap base in a bowl.
2- Melt the glycerine soap base in a bain-marie (hot water bath). A bain-marie is made by placing the bowl in a larger pot of hot, steaming water. This will gradually heat and melt the soap base. Stir while the glycerine soap is melting, and avoid boiling.
3- Add 1/2 teaspoon (approx. 1.5 grams or 0.05 oz) of dried mint powder.
4- Add 1/2 teaspoon (approx. 2.5 grams or 0.09 oz) of mint carrier oil.
5- In a separate small cup, let’s prepare the color solution. Mix the following:
- 0.25 gram (approx. 0.009 oz) of mica green color powder
- 2 grams (approx. 0.07 oz) of mint carrier oil
6- Add some of the color solution to the soap mixture. You don’t have to use all of the quantity prepared; use enough to achieve the color you prefer.
7- Add 2 drops of essential oil. Here, I use cedarwood essential oil.
8- Mix the ingredients thoroughly with a small spatula or whisk.
9- Once you are satisfied that the ingredients have been uniformly blended, pour the soap mixture into the mold.
10- Spray the surface of the soap with 95% medical alcohol to eliminate bubbles.
11- Allow the soap 12-24 hours to solidify.
12- After the soap has completely solidified, remove the bar gently from the mold.
13- The DIY Glycerine Soap with Mint Recipe is now complete. You can start using the soap bar the next day. If you plan to use it later or intend to gift it, wrap the soap bar with thin nylon to protect it from condensation.
