Discover the revitalizing and soothing benefits of DIY Lavender Essential Oil as it uplifts your senses while nourishing your skin. Let’s delve into the world of DIY Lavender Essential Oil and unlock its potential for transforming your skincare regimen.
Ingredients Needed
- Lavender flowers, dried, and freshly ground into a semi powder to expose its oils. Grind the dried lavender flowers only when you are ready to make the lavender essential oil. This way you preserve its oils and they don’t evaporate or dry off.
- Sweet almond oil. I prefer to use this oil as it is odorless and colorless. You can also use corn oil or sunflower oil. You want to use such odorless oils with the lavender flower, because you don’t want the smell of the oil to overpower the lavender scent or affect it.
Tools Needed
- Scale to measure quantities
- Glass beaker
- Glass mixing rod
- Glass jar or container to store the mix
- Aluminum foil
Steps: DIY Lavender Essential Oil
1- Start by adding 10 grams (0.35 oz.) of dried, semi-powdered lavender flowers.
2- Add 5 teaspoons of sweet almond oil — 25 grams (0.88 oz.) or about 25 milliliters.
3- Mix well.
4- Add 1 or 2 more teaspoons of almond oil as necessary to ensure that the almond oil fully covers the lavender powder. It is important that the lavender powder is wholly submerged in the oil. Don’t add much oil though, as the end result won’t be an essential oil, but rather a carrier oil.
5- Mix again.
6- Place the mix into a glass container or jar, and seal it with its cover. Wrap the container with aluminum foil, and store it in a closet for a month, away from sunlight or any light.
7- Every 2 or 3 days, shake the container sideways, in small light moves, and store it back in the closet.
8- After a month, filter the contents thoroughly, using first a sieve, then a fine filtering fabric to remove completely the lavender powder residue. Squeeze the filtering fabric with your fingers to press out every last drop of the essential oil. This might necessitate repeated filtering till you obtain a clear liquid, which is now your lavender essential oil.
It is very important to ensure that the essential oil is devoid of any powder residue. Because, later, when you add the essential oil to a skincare product like scrub, soap, cream, etc. any residue will spoil the product.
9- With the quantities used, you will obtain a small quantity of the lavender essential oil. It is highly concentrated and is to be added to your handmade skincare product in drops only.
How To Use: DIY Lavender Essential Oil
When it comes to using DIY Lavender Essential Oil, a little goes a long way due to its concentrated nature. It’s recommended to use this aromatic oil in drops to ensure the perfect balance in your handmade skincare creations.
Begin by adding a small number of drops to your body scrub or soap mixture, and gradually increase or decrease based on your preference.
