DIY glycerine soap with charcoal and shea butter is a fantastic way to create a unique and natural soap that combines the benefits of both ingredients. Activated charcoal helps detoxify and cleanse the skin, while shea butter moisturizes and nourishes. This double action recipe ensures your skin feels refreshed and rejuvenated.
Making this DIY glycerine soap is straightforward and rewarding. With just a few ingredients, you can craft a creative soap that stands out. Follow our simple steps to create your own batch of luxurious, natural soap at home.
Ingredients Needed
Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.
- Transparent glycerine soap base: We’ll use the transparent base for its clarity, ensuring the true charcoal color in the final soap. Using a white base may result in a greyish color on the charcoal side of the soap bar.
- Activated charcoal powder – Buy it pre-made or make it yourself: DIY Natural Activated Charcoal.
- Refined shea butter (odorless)
- Mica color powder, white
- Optional: Fragrance oil
Tools Needed
- Scale to measure quantities
- 2 Bowls
- 2 Silicone or wooden spatulas
- Soap mold
Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.
Steps: DIY Glycerine Soap with Charcoal and Shea Butter
1- Begin by placing 100 grams (3.52 oz) of transparent glycerine soap base into each of the two bowls. This gives us a total of 200 grams (7.05 oz) of soap base, split into two parts: one for the activated charcoal and the other for the shea butter.
2- Place both bowls in a bain-marie (hot water bath) to melt the glycerine soap base. A bain-marie is made by placing each bowl in a larger pot of hot, steaming water. This will gradually heat and melt the soap base. Stir while the mixture is melting, and avoid boiling.
3- Keep both bowls in the hot water bath.
4- Add 1 gram (0.035 oz) of activated charcoal powder to one bowl.
5- Mix the charcoal powder thoroughly with the melted glycerine soap using a spatula.
6- Add 2 grams (0.07 oz) of refined shea butter to the other bowl. If the shea butter takes time to melt in the soap, place its bain-marie back on the stove to heat the water again.
7- Stir the mixture of shea butter and glycerine soap with a spatula.
8- To give the mixture of shea butter and soap a white color, add a small quantity of mica white powder.
9- Mix the shea butter and soap mixture thoroughly until the pearly color is even.
10- If you wish to add fragrance, add 3 grams (0.10 oz) of your preferred fragrance oil in each bowl. However, this soap being therapeutic, I prefer to have it without scent.
11- Now, before pouring the soap mixtures into a mold, give both mixtures a thorough and final stirring, each with its own spatula. If you see that the mixtures are starting to thicken slightly before pouring into the mold, heat them up a bit in the bain-marie and stir them.
12- Pour the mixtures into a mold cavity simultaneously, not one after the other, holding one bowl in each hand and pouring the contents in parallel. When the first mold cavity fills up, shift to the second cavity.
13- The quantity of soap prepared is enough to make two soap bars.
14- Allow the soap to solidify in the mold for 24 hours.
15- After the soap has hardened in the mold for 24 hours, remove the soap bars gently from the mold.
16- Let the soap bars sit until the next day before you start using them.
