Ingredients Needed
Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.
- Sugar
- Coconut Oil
- Ground Dried Lavender Flowers
- Whole Dried Lavender Flowers
- Lavender Fragrance Oil
- Mica Color Powder, purple color
- Optional: Any type of purple dried flowers for decoration
Note: As noted in the ingredients list above, ground and whole dried lavender flowers are essential for today’s recipe. While these items are available in stores, preparing them yourself from freshly picked lavender blooms can enhance your experience. Below, you’ll find the method for doing just that.
Note: We will need half a cup of liquid coconut oil (approx. 120 grams or 4.2 ounces). If the coconut oil is solid due to cooler temperatures, melt it separately until it becomes liquid. By the time you need to use it, it will have cooled and be ready to mix with the other ingredients.
Tools Needed
- Large bowl
- Measuring cup
- Small silicone spatula
- Teaspoon
- Glass container or jar to store your DIY Lavender Sugar Scrub
Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.
Steps: DIY Lavender Sugar Scrub Recipe
If you prefer to make your own dried lavender flowers, continue with the following steps. If you’re using store-bought dried lavender, skip to step 7.
Prepare Dried Lavender
1- Gather naturally-growing lavender, flowers still on their stems.
2- Place some lavender stems in a plastic container. Every 10 stems will yield a teaspoon of lavender flowers. Adjust the quantity based on how much dried lavender flowers you want to prepare for this recipe and for future DIY projects.
3- Pour water over the lavender to wash them thoroughly. Use a sieve to drain the dirty water, and repeat the process with clean water. Do this three times to ensure all dust and impurities are removed.
4- Spread the washed lavender on a tray and let them dry in sunlight for two days.
5- You now have natural lavender that has been properly washed and dried.
6- Use a coffee grinder or similar tool to grind a portion of the dried lavender into a powder, while keeping the rest of the lavender whole.
Make the Scrub
7- Begin by placing 2 cups of sugar (approx. 400 grams or 14.1 ounces) in a large bowl.
8- Add half a cup of liquid coconut oil (approx. 120 grams or 4.2 ounces).
9- Blend the sugar and coconut oil thoroughly with a silicone spatula.
10- Add a small quantity of purple mica color powder to the mixture. Stir well and assess the color. Adjust the amount of mica powder as needed to achieve your desired shade.
11- Add 2 rounded teaspoons of ground dried lavender flowers.
12- Blend thoroughly until evenly mixed.
13- Add 1 rounded teaspoon of whole dried lavender flowers.
14- Mix well again to ensure all ingredients are well combined.
15- Scoop the scrub into a glass container or jar.
16- For decoration, especially if you are gifting the scrub, place a few purple dried flowers of any type on a small corner of the scrub’s surface. Avoid covering the entire surface. Additionally, sprinkle some whole dried lavender flowers over the top for an added touch of charm.
