Ingredients Needed
Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.
- Natural beeswax
- Iron oxide color powder, dark brown. Iron oxide color powder, derived from natural minerals, is a safe and commonly used ingredient in cosmetics, providing natural pigmentation, including various shades of brown for products like eyeliners. Check product labels for specific details on the type and source of iron oxide used.
- Sweet almond oil
- Rosemary carrier oil. You can easily make it yourself as explained below.
How to Make Rosemary Carrier Oil
Here is a brief method on how to make the rosemary carrier oil:
- Put one heaped teaspoon of dried rosemary in a small glass container.
- Add 50 milliliters (1.69 US fl oz) of sweet almond oil.
- Seal and store the container for 20 days in a cabinet. Shake the container gently every day or so.
- After 20 days, filter it thoroughly to remove any residue.
Tools Needed
- Scale to weigh quantities
- Small glass bowl
- Small plate
- Teaspoon
- Glass mixing rod
- Eyeliner pot or small container to store your DIY Natural Eyeliner
Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.
Steps: DIY Natural Eyeliner Recipe
1- Start by putting 5 grams (0.17 oz) of beeswax in a small glass bowl.
2- Add 7 grams (0.24 oz) of sweet almond oil.
3- Add 3 grams (0.10 oz) of rosemary carrier oil.
4- Heat and melt the contents in a bain-marie (hot water bath). A bain-marie is done by placing the bowl containing the beeswax and the oils in a larger pot of hot steaming water. This will gradually heat and melt the contents. Avoid boiling.
5- After the contents have melted, remove the bain-marie pot of water off the stove, keeping the bowl in it. This step prevents the contents from solidifying.
6- In a small plate, measure out 8 grams (0.28 oz) of iron oxide color powder. Here, I am using dark brown color; you can choose black or any shade you prefer.
7- With the bowl containing the melted beeswax and the oils still in the bain-marie pot of hot water, add the iron oxide powder to the mixture.
8- Stir thoroughly with a glass mixing rod.
9- Pour the eyeliner mixture into an eyeliner pot or a small container.
10- Allow the eyeliner to cool and solidify.
