Welcome to our delightful guide on creating a luxurious DIY foaming body scrub with shredded coconut! In this article, we’ll show you how to exfoliate and achieve a radiant glow using the goodness of soft shredded coconut.
Our DIY foaming body scrub is not only easy to make but also leaves your skin feeling incredibly soft and rejuvenated. So, let’s dive into the step-by-step process of making this delightful scrub that will leave you with smooth, glowing skin.
Ingredients Needed
- Foaming Bath Butter. This butter does not leave an oily feel on the skin. It is like soap. You can buy it pre-made, or you can make it yourself as per this article DIY Foaming Bath Butter.
- Shredded Coconut
- Aloe Vera Body Oil. You can use instead sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil.
- Essential Oil (Concentrated)
- 3 Mica Color Powders
Notes on Ingredients
Choose high-quality ingredients to boost the effectiveness and safety of your DIY beauty products.
When an essential oil is included, I use either concentrated or diluted essential oils. If using concentrated essential oils, use up to 0.5% by weight to ensure safety for all skin types. To use diluted essential oils, mix 1 gram (0.035 oz) of concentrated essential oil with 100 grams (3.5 oz) of sweet almond oil or jojoba oil.
If a recipe calls for fragrance oil, you can use diluted essential oil instead to benefit from both its scent and therapeutic effects. This provides a natural alternative to synthetic fragrance oils and offers additional benefits.
Tools Needed
- Scale to weigh quantities
- Large bowl
- 3 small bowls
- Wooden spatula
- Wooden popsicle
- Electric hand mixer
- 3 small glass containers or jars to store the DIY Foaming Body Scrubs
Prior to use, ensure that both your utensils and containers are properly cleaned and disinfected. Wash them with warm soapy water, dry with a tissue, and then sanitize by spraying with 70% medical alcohol. Wipe them clean and let them air dry before use.
Steps: DIY Foaming Body Scrub
1- Start by adding 400 grams (14.1 oz) of the foaming bath butter into the bowl.
2- Add 50 grams (1.76 oz) of aloe vera body oil (alternatives: sweet almond oil or jojoba oil).
3- With a wooden spatula, break the foaming bath butter into smaller pieces.
4- Using the electric hand mixer, whip up the contents just a bit to soften them slightly. We don’t want to whip them up too much and end up with a cream-like consistency.
5- Split the contents into 3 small bowls, as we are going to prepare foaming scrubs of different colors.
6- With the tip of a wooden popsicle, add a little pink mica color powder into the first bowl, blue mica into the second bowl, and purple mica into the third.
7- Mix thoroughly by hand the contents of each bowl. Notice how the contents are soft but holding well together.
8- In each bowl, add 13 grams (0.45 oz) of shredded coconut.
9- Mix first by hand, then whip it up a little only with the electric hand mixer.
10- In each bowl, add 3 drops of essential oil. Choose one that you like.
11- Mix well by hand.
12- Your DIY Foaming Body Scrub is now done! You can either scoop each colored scrub into its own container, or you can do it like me, scoop differently colored scrubs together, like in the image below.
